Gaia has officially unveiled the Gaia AI Phone, the world’s first smartphone built for complete AI sovereignty. Unlike current AI-powered devices that rely on cloud infrastructure from tech giants like Apple or Google, the Gaia AI Phone processes all AI tasks locally on-device.
Built on Galaxy S25 Edge hardware, the device launches first in Korea and Hong Kong, marking a milestone in the decentralized AI movement.
At the core of the device is the Gaia AI Platform, which allows advanced AI inference to run directly on the phone’s hardware. Inference—the process of applying trained AI models to generate answers and perform tasks—is handled without cloud servers.
Each phone also acts as a full network node, contributing computing power to the Gaia decentralized AI network. Users earn token rewards for providing inference capacity to other participants, transforming them from AI consumers into AI infrastructure owners.
Matt Wright, CEO of Gaia, explained:
“Every major tech company is putting AI on phones the same way: your data goes to their cloud, gets processed on their servers, and they control the experience. We’ve proven that sophisticated AI can run entirely on your device while giving users ownership in the network.”
Traditional SaaS AI models charge subscription fees while extracting value from user data. Gaia flips this model by:
This represents a fundamental shift in AI economics, aligning user incentives with network growth and sustainability.
Running enterprise-grade AI locally required breakthrough compression and optimization techniques. According to Shashank Sripada, COO of Gaia:
“This isn’t just about privacy—it’s proving that decentralized AI infrastructure can rival centralized systems while creating economic value.”
The phone compresses large language model (LLM) capabilities, previously requiring data center infrastructure, to run efficiently on mobile hardware while maintaining full node participation. Gaia will showcase live demonstrations of AI inference and network operations at Korea Blockchain Week in September 2025.
The Gaia AI Phone launches with a suite of exclusive partner integrations, including:
Owners also receive token airdrops from partner projects, giving them immediate participation in the decentralized AI economy. More Web3 and gaming partnerships will be announced in the coming weeks.
The initial release includes 1,000 units available for early adopters. Gaia aims to refine the ecosystem with this select group before expanding availability.
Founded in 2024, Gaia is building peer-to-peer decentralized AI infrastructure that prioritizes transparency, privacy, and user ownership. The company has raised over $20 million and partnered with leading institutions, including UC Berkeley, to advance decentralized AI technology.
The Gaia AI Phone is more than just a smartphone—it’s a proof-of-concept for decentralized AI infrastructure. By running AI completely on-device and rewarding users for participation, Gaia offers a powerful alternative to centralized AI monopolies.
